21 for an exciting Small Sparks workshop in Northeast Seattle.
Small Sparks is a City program that provides up to $250 for events that
bring people together. The
workshop will celebrate Sparks events and provide people with ideas for more
projects. Two recent Sparks
events in Northeast Seattle were a kimchee festival and a community garden at

Temporary Northgate Library Opens The Northgate Temporary Library is now open at 10548 Fifth Ave. N.E. The library is in a renovated bank building on the site of the future Northgate library, community center, and park. It has over 9,000 items in its collection. The temporary library will close in 2004 so that the new Northgate library can be built. Hours are:

Health Care Needs Assessed
North Helpline, Northwest Hospital, and Seattle Pacific University nursing students are assessing the health care needs of people in the Lake City area. Surveys will help determine how health and social agencies in this area can best meet community health needs. Results will be presented at a talk at Northwest Hospital on May 28. For more information, contact North Helpline’s Rita Anderson or Gayle Munns at 367-3477. Strengthening Community Links in Lake City Area: Call to Roundtable Ed Pottharst, the City’s neighborhood district coordinator for the Lake City area, would like to host a roundtable to strengthen community links, especially those to youth, seniors, and under-served populations such as immigrant and refugee communities. Time (sometime in late May or June), date, and place to be announced. Schools, social service providers, community groups, and businesses will be invited. Please let Ed.Pottharst@seattle.gov know if you are interested in participating in the roundtable. Bid on Sailboat Cruises and Kayak Rides: Friends of Annie’s Playground Auction Have
a festive evening out and help to build a new community playground! The
Benefit Auction for Annie's Playground at Meadowbrook is coming up on
Saturday, May 17, 5pm, in the Meadowbrook Community Center.
The very low admission price ($8/person or $25/family of 4) includes a
pasta dinner, kids' activities, and silent and live auction. Tickets are available at the Meadowbrook Pool or by contacting

Race
Relations/Social Justice Project Funds Available
The City Department of Neighborhoods has approximately $150,000 available to fund up to ten projects that: - Improve awareness, understanding, and relations among different racial or ethnic groups and foster positive interaction between groups OR - Raise awareness and attempt to address issues such as equity, fairness, and access to education, health care, employment, job training, housing, public health, and the environment. Submittals are due by noon on Thursday, July 3, 2003, at the Department of Neighborhoods, 700 Third Ave Suite 400, Seattle WA 98104 or at your local Neighborhood Service Center.
