City Light Superintendent Meetings: The
Seattle City Council will hold a public Town Hall-style "Conversation" with
City Light Superintendent Nominee Jorge Carrasco on Tuesday, January
20, at 5:30 p.m. in Council Chambers, as part of its confirmation process. Mayor
Greg Nickels submitted only one name to the Council last month as his
choice to lead the City's public power utility. Carrasco
earned unanimous support from the 15-member advisory committee on the
hiring, despite his past history of resigning under pressure from the
East Bay Municipal Utility District based in Oakland and forced out of
his job as Austin’s city manager.
The Council has authority to confirm or deny the nomination. Carrasco has experience overseeing water utilities,
but not electric utilizes. Members
of the public are invited to submit their own questions for Carrasco,
by sending them to Council.Web@Seattle.Gov or
by calling 206-684-8888. At the public meeting on January 20, the Council
will ask Carrasco several questions submitted by members of the public.
The Council will then devote one hour for those people in attendance
to comment on the confirmation process or ask their own questions of
Carrasco.
11.
Open Space Advocates Meeting: 7:30
p.m. on January 21 at the Bradner Gardens Park Shelter House, located
at 29th South and South Grand Street, three blocks south of the I-90
lid. There are several reasons
for re-invigorating Open Space Advocates. There's
a new chair of the City Council Parks and Culture Committee, David Della. There's a new budget crunch emerging. The ProParks Levy is now mid-stream: time
to evaluate and start planning for 2008 and beyond. City policies are affecting parks both positively and negatively
in some ways. And, there's nothing
like a round robin sharing of experiences, observations, and ideas to
help build a strategy. For further
information, contact John Barber at barber-osa@comcast.net.
12.
Friends of Street Ends Meeting: Friends
of Street Ends will hold a meeting at the Good Shepherd Center, Washington
Water Trails Association office, Room 305, 4649 Sunnyside Avenue N, on
January 27 to be briefed on the status of the City's shoreline street
ends by Christie Santos of Seattle's Department of Transportation. New developments -- proposed Director's Rule,
6th N, East Mercer Street. Because
of limited seating please contact John Barber at barber-osa@comcast.net to RSVP or to
suggest special agenda topics.
