January 3, 2002 PCC Announces Future of Ravenna Location PCC is happy to announce an outcome for the Ravenna site that we believe is the best possible one for all concerned. The co-op has entered into an agreement to sell its property at the corner of NE 65th Street and 20th Avenue NE to Third Place Company, the parent of Third Place Books and the Honey Bear Bakery. Third Place Co. (founded by Ron Sher) plans to open a Ravenna neighborhood Third Place complete with books, Honey Bear, and community gathering space at the location as soon as possible. Robert Sindelar, General Manager of Third Place Co., is "tremendously excited to bring some of the best elements of our Lake Forest Park store and integrate them in a new way in a location that has already been such an important destination in the Ravenna neighborhood." PCC's Board of Trustees worked throughout 2001 to find a use that is compatible with the neighborhood and makes sense as well for PCC with its nearby stores in three other North Seattle neighborhoods. This decision makes sense for the membership as a whole, by bringing this process to completion; it makes sense for the cooperative as a business, by strengthening our financial position; and it makes sense for the neighborhood, by providing the community-owned business and gathering place so many had requested. PCC thanks everyone - board, staff, and members - for their contributions of energy, enthusiasm, and patience with the process. And we welcome Third Place to the neighborhood! |
