The latest Ravenna-Bryant Community Association newsletter has been mailed
and hand-delivered around the neighborhood. In case you haven't received a
copy, an abbreviated version follows:

Seattle City Council Candidate Forum
Thursday, October 2, 2003
7-9 pm
Eckstein Middle School
3003 NE 75th Street
Sponsored by the Northeast District Council
Five city council positions are up for election in 2003. You have the
opportunity to hear how the 10 candidates stand on the issues our
communities care about. Doors open at 6:30 pm for conversation and
refreshments. The event starts promptly at 7 pm.

Blakely Crescent Park is scheduled to break ground in the next few weeks.
Feel free to drop by this new pocket park (Blakely near 25th NE) to see the
progress and even to lend a hand. Thanks to all in the community who
volunteered time. And thanks to Silver Cloud, Intracorp and University
Village for their generous donations to help fund the park.

The noise ordinance passed, so there are new rules for disturbances in
residential neighborhoods. In summary, the ordinance prohibits audible
noise after 10 pm on weeknights and 11 pm on weekends. Now offenders can be
cited $250 on a first call, rather than get a warning. If someone becomes a
two-time lawbreaker, penalties get more harsh, including possible jail
time. Landlords can also be held responsible for multiple offenses. For
more information, go to:

In efforts to make the area surrounding University Village more
pedestrian-friendly, the RBCA will be working with local community members,
other community groups, and the city to build sidewalks on NE 50th and 30th
NE.

Speaking of the village area, please let us know of any comments (good or
bad) you may have about repercussions from the development around that area
(Blakely Commons condos, UW dorms, Village parking lot).

The RBCA Board meets the second Wednesday of each month at the
Ravenna-Bryant Community Center at 7 pm. These meetings are open to the
public. If you have a possible agenda item, please e-mal it in advance of
the board meeting to jchatalas@comcast.net.
