===================NOMINATE A NEIGHBOR!======================== Save the Date: Join the Laurelhurst Community Club at the 10th Annual Neighbor Appreciation Day Celebration, Saturday, February 7th from 10 a.m. until Noon at the Laurelhurst Community Center. At the Laurelhurst celebration, we will honor those neighbors who do the little things that make Laurelhurst such a great neighborhood. Nominees will receive Good Neighbor Awards from Mayor Nickels and County Councilmember Bob Ferguson and will participate in a drawing to win a special gift. Nominate a Neighbor! Do you have a great neighbor? Nominate that person (or family) to receive a Good Neighbor Award. Show your neighbor how much you appreciate him and/or her for the little things they do to make our neighborhood such a special place. How to Nominate a Neighbor: Take a minute to write a short note about the person/family that has done something for you. Include your full name and address, as well as the full name and address of your nominee. Please include some examples of the types of things your neighbor has done to inspire your nomination. Do they watch over your home while you are away? Have they cared for you and your family in an emergency? Do they help you with household chores or handyman projects you can't do on your own? Neighbors who take time from their busy schedules to help are the people that make our neighborhood special. Send your nominations for a Good Neighbor Award to Coco Sherman at 4113 55th Avenue NE, Seattle, WA 98105 or e-mail her at cocosherman@comcast.net. Nominations are due by Monday, February 2nd. Questions? Contact Coco Sherman at 206-525-9850 or cocosherman@comcast.net.
===========GET INVOLVED IN THE SCHOOLS FIRST CAMPAIGN===========
There will be two Seattle school levies on the February 3rd ballot, one for school operations and the other for school construction and renovations. These levies are not new taxes. They are simply replacing expiring levies previously approved by voters. These levies are critical to providing a quality education and a safe and positive learning environment for Seattle Public School students. These levies reaffirm our commitment to education without raising our tax rates. LCC encourages you to vote YES on February 3rd. Volunteer to work on the Schools First Campaign! Help out with phonebanking, mailings, office work or a multitude of other tasks to help pass the measures. Make sure your child's school is doing its part. For further information, contact the campaign at 206-903-0297 or campaign@schools-first.com or go to www.schools-first.com. Do you need an absentee ballot? Apply online if you wish to vote absentee. =======================CONSUMER NEWS=======================
Comcast Consumer Alert: Comcast Internet users should be alerted to a nationwide scam involving your Internet service. An email from an official looking – but bogus – address service@comcast.com is pretending to be Comcast in order to get your credit card information. Do NOT give any account information to anyone at this address, or any other address for that matter. If you have a question about any email you believe to be from Comcast, call Comcast first at 1-877-824-2288. For further information, please go to http://www.kingcountyjournal.com/sited/story/html/146632. You Can Continue to Subscribe to the National Do-Not-Call List: Although conflicting court rulings have left the Do-Not-Call list in legal limbo, it does appear that the largest national telemarketing organization is honoring the list. You may still get on the list that will prevent telemarketers from calling you either by calling 1-888-382-1222 or on line at www.donotcall.gov. If you call, you must call from the number you want removed. The registration is good for five years, and is renewable after that. The new regulations do permit a few categories of callers. Charities, polls, and political calls will be permitted. In addition, you may still be called by a company with which you have conducted business in the past 18 months, although you can opt out of those calls, too, by requesting to be removed when they call you.
