Dear Neighbor,

Its time to start getting involved in the expansion of the Laurelhurst Community Center, the upcoming election and holiday shopping. This month, we’ve provided you with information about tonight’s community meeting on the community center expansion, our Get Out the Vote Program and an arts and crafts fair at Magnuson Park.

Please forward this message to neighbors who may not be on our email network. As always, we appreciate your support and commitment to the neighborhood.

If you have questions about this message or any other neighborhood concerns or announcements you would like included in future messages, please email back. The Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) board of trustees meets at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at St. Stephens. All calls and concerns from neighbors are discussed and neighbors are always welcome to attend.

==================COMMUNITY CENTER EXPANSION=================

Community Meeting Tonight! October 25 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Community Center

Neighbors are invited to attend a community meeting tonight to help identify community priorities for expansion of the Laurelhurst Community Center. The goal of this meeting is to prioritize expansion needs and to review options and tradeoffs for configuring the expansion. Your views and participation are important! Expansion of the community center will affect generations to come in Laurelhurst.

A Project Advisory Team (PAT), consisting of ten neighbors selected by the Parks Department, has been formed to provide its advice and recommendations on the community center expansion. The PAT has met twice and those meetings are open to the public. The Parks Department will give considerable weight to the PAT recommendations, but that does not mean your views will not be considered.

Please join neighbors tonight and share your views. If you are unable to attend, please email us back to let us know your priorities for community center expansion. Even if you don’t know exactly what you’d like to see for our community center, your preliminary ideas would be appreciated. Do you want a separate new structure? Do you want a new gym or to continue sharing space with Laurelhurst School? What about more program space? Parking? We will compile all of the responses we receive to share with the Parks Department, the PAT and the LCC Board of Trustees.

For further information, go the LCC’s website at www.laurelhurstcc.com or the Parks Department website at www.cityofseattle.net/parks/proparks/projects/laurelhurst.htm.

Many neighbors received a postcard in the mail about tonight’s meeting or a flyer on their doorstep. We apologize for the late notice through our email network but were waiting to receive details about a community wide electronic survey, which still have not arrived. Stay tuned!

=========DO YOU NEED A RIDE TO THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY?========

In an effort to get out the vote, the Laurelhurst Community Club will provide you or your neighbors with a ride to the polls. If you are a Laurelhurst resident and need a ride to the polls or know of neighbors who might, please contact Dermot Noonan, Project Coordinator, at 206-526-8006 or dermot.noonan@comcast.net.

Voters will be confronted with important questions on November 2. Who will be our next president? Our governor? Who should represent us in the state legislature? Who should serve on the state supreme court and our local court? Voters will also decide the fate of many ballot measures. Your vote will make a difference.

Even if you don’t need a ride to the polls and can’t think of a neighbor who might, think about taking a neighbor with you to vote. Reach out to friends, neighbors and co-workers and let them know that voting is important to our communities. YOU make a difference when you ask people to go vote!
