Dear Neighbor,
There is so much to do as we all prepare for the holiday season. It’s an especially busy time in Laurelhurst as we move forward on planning to expand our community center. This month, we’d like to tell you about a couple of opportunities to get involved in the community center planning as well as some other opportunities and events. Here’s a summary:

  • Community Center Survey: Complete your survey online. Just go to www.laurelhurstcc.com. Please respond right away to provide early guidance to the design team. Details below.
  • Community Meeting on Community Center Expansion: December 9, 6:30 p.m. at the community center. Please bring non-perishable food items for the food bank. Details below.
  • Would you like to volunteer to work on land use issues for the community? LCC spends a lot of time reviewing land use proposals to protect our single-family zoning and our business district. Would you like to help out? There are measures in the works to reduce parking and open space requirements and to increase density in single-family neighborhoods. Just email back if you’re interested in helping out.
  • Christmas Tree Lighting: The Villa Academy invites neighbors to is annual campus Christmas tree lighting on Thursday, December 2nd at 6 p.m. Meet in front of the school and enjoy cocoa, carols and treats. For further information, contact Brigette Quichocho at 206-524-8885 ext. 268 or bquichocho@thevilla.org.

  • Music at St. Stephens: Enjoy St. Stephens 10th Annual Concert Series. The next event is on December 11th at 7 p.m. Details on the series below.
    Please forward this message to neighbors who may not be on our email network. We new have 1136 neighbors on our email network! As always, we appreciate your support and commitment to the neighborhood.

If you have questions about this message or any other neighborhood concerns or announcements you would like included in future messages, please email back. The Laurelhurst Community Club (LCC) board of trustees meets at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month at St. Stephens. All calls and concerns from neighbors and our business community are discussed. Neighbors are always welcome to attend.

=================COMMUNITY CENTER SURVEY=================

After working for almost eight years to get funding to expand the community center, plans are underway to accomplish the expansion with funds from the ProParks levy.

Community Survey: What are your priorities for expansion of the community center? Please take a few minutes to complete the online survey to let LCC and the Parks Department know your preferences and priorities. You can access the survey at www.laurelhurstcc.com. You will also receive a hard copy version of the survey with your monthly newsletter that you receive in the mail. Please submit your response right away as early responses are important in preparing the design alternatives. The Parks Department will give "substantial weight" to the recommendations of the project advisory team (PAT), a group of neighbors selected by the Department to provide advice on the project, but that does not mean that your views are not important—they are!
Community Meeting: The second community wide meeting on community center expansion will be on December 9th at 6:30 p.m. at the community center, 4554 NE 41st Street. This will be your first opportunity to review draft schematic designs. There will be an opportunity for you to comment. We hope you can join neighbors and express your views. Please bring a nonperishable food item to contribute to the food bank. Without your help, many people will go hungry this holiday season. The following foods are especially needed: canned fruits and vegetables (corn, green beans, apple sauce, etc.), canned tuna, juices, soups, peanut butter, canned milk, baby food and formula, pet food and beef stew.
For further information, go the LCC’s website at www.laurelhurstcc.com or the Parks Department website at www.cityofseattle.net/parks/proparks/projects/laurelhurst.htm.
