06/06/02 What a meeting yesterday! We could not have asked for a better outcome! The Landmark Board showed great courage in the face of much opposition from the Seattle School District, members of the RHS staff, and a representative of the site council who made statements at the meeting! All your letters and e-mails were more than worth the effort! We got the exterior of the 1922 and 1928 buildings landmarked and we got the lobby, the auditorium, the original girl's and boy's gyms, and even the clocks!!!! We were thrilled! This means that any changes the architect wants to do to these spaces must go through an approval process with the Landmark Board. This means lots of work ahead. The design process will now begin with this direction as a given. I will continue to keep you all informed as to what is going on. The next meeting of the RHS Design Team will be on Monday, June 10. Additionally, we must press ahead with concern about the fate of the organ (money must be raised for that) in addition to money which must be raised to clean and preserve the murals in the lobby. We need HELP with these tasks! Please volunteer now by e-mailing me so we can get started. Andrea Wilson |
