FREE POLLUTION AND ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS SOFTWARE!

The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Washington State Department of Ecology have created a computer program called the
Toxic Release Inventory Display System, or TRIDS.

Each year certain companies, businesses and other organizations that manufacture, process or use certain types and amounts of chemicals and pollutants must report this data under the Federal Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA). TRIDS is a computer program that displays these annually reported releases of toxic chemicals that wind up in our air, land, water, sewers and other off-site locations in the state of Washington (there is also data available for other states). The TRIDS program is a creative way to track industrial pollution and is not only beneficial for individual awareness, it is also a wonderful teaching tool.

The environmental data contained in the TRIDS program is displayed in a visually interesting format that is not only useful for teaching children about pollution, but also provides technical details that make it a valuable resource for environmental agencies, planners and community outreach specialists alike. The data can be displayed in SPANISH with just clicking on a toggle.

The program is free and is available on CD, diskettes and the Internet. To download the program the website address is: http://www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/hwtr/epcra/trids/index.html.
